This article is about how the Corona pandemic has affected our schools. It mainly focuses on the services our schools offered to the public, like free lunches, special education programs, and therapy. It also talks about the struggles for both the students and the teachers to work from home.
Personally, I can see the schools in my area still providing these services, like handing out free lunches into people's cars with gloves and masks. I hope they will continue being able to provide services to the community as the quarantine goes on.
Now this is the question I pose to you: As students aiming to become teachers, what are your thoughts on the way schools have adjusted to working from home?
I feel like this has been a difficult time for many of us, but especially hard on educators as they are expected to be teachers in a new territory. Some have been lenient and understanding while others have been expecting the same from students. I feel like educators should be understanding and mindful of the limited resources some students might have and living situations, family environments that can heavily impact their education.
Back story before the school I volunteer at closed. They had rushed all the teachers to create lessons for the students to have for two weeks. The teacher I help is not very good at technology and I don't mind I enjoy doing all that for him. I will say that day was so stressful with admin screaming to have everything done right then and there.
My thoughts on this is it's hard because some students don't like to working from home like myself. Others they don't have the means even if they school does provide it it does not mean they will do the work.
I have talked with the teacher and he is not happy with the idea of letting students get credit for the class when they have not done any work since they started this. Most of those students also did not want to even work in the class.
It feels like most schools want everyone to get the best grade they can so they do not look bad on their reports they have to make every year. Plus funding.
There are also the ideas that many subjects can not be done properly without a class environment.
